Among the amazing natural phenomenon of the Belogradchik Rocks, near the town of Belogradchik, a fortress has survived from Roman times.
The Belogradchik fortress controlled the Roman roads leading from the mountains to the town of Ritsiary (now the village of Archar in the vicinity of Vidin).
In the past, the fortress has an important role in the history of the Romans, Byzantines, Bulgarians, Turks. Now it is a very popular place among tourists, attracting with unusual shapes of stone figures, also the fortress itself offers a wonderful view of the mountains.
