About Sozopol

Sozopol is a famous resort in the southern part of the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria. It is the administrative center of the Sozopol community, which is part of the Burgas region. Sozopol is the oldest Bulgarian city on the Black Sea coast. The first settlement in these places arose as early as 4-3 millennium BC. e. In 610 BC e. at this place, the immigrants from Miletus founded the Greek colony of Apollonius, named after the god Apollo and erected a 14-meter statue of Apollo. In 72 BC. e. Roman commander Marc Terence Varron Lucullus captured and destroyed Apollonia, and brought the aforementioned statue to Rome.
