About Albena

Albena resort was opened on August 24, 1969 and is located in the beautiful bay of the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria. It is located on the Black Sea coast, 30 km north of Varna and Dobrich, 8 km south of Balchik, 500 km northeast of Sofia. In Albena there is a beach with a length of 5 km and a width of 150 m.

Particular attention at the resort is given to children. There are many services such as amusement park, karting, skateboard school, shooting gallery, water slide, water karting and mini-golf, archery range, children’s discos, boats, mini-trains, video games in the bowling room. Also are held competitions for drawings on asphalt and for building of sand castles. The resort has a wide variety of cafes and restaurants with European and Bulgarian cuisine. In the evenings, many of them offer entertainment and dance programs.

About Varna

Varna is located in north-eastern Bulgaria, on the Black Sea coast. Varna is the third largest city in Bulgaria and the largest on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast with a population of about 330,000 people. Because of its historical and economic and cultural importance, it is often called the “Sea Capital of Bulgaria”.  With its modern port, railway junction and international airport connecting with 35 countries and over 100 cities in the world, Varna is one of the largest transport centres in Bulgaria.

History of Varna goes back centuries. In the 7th century BC, Odessos fortress, built by Greek colonists from the city of Miletus, already stood on this site. In the year 15 AD, it became part of the Roman Empire. The city was named after the Bulgarian name “Varna” in the 9th century, although it finally became part of the Bulgarian kingdom only in the 13th century. In the era of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom, Varna turned into a busy shopping centre, which traded with Genoa, Venice, Dubrovnik. The tourist boom of the twentieth century turned Varna into one of the favourite vacation spots of Bulgarian and foreign tourists.
