About Burgas

About Varna

Varna is located in north-eastern Bulgaria, on the Black Sea coast. History of Varna goes back centuries. In the 7th century BC, Odessos fortress, built by Greek colonists from the city of Miletus, already stood on this site. In the year 15 AD, it became part of the Roman Empire. The city was named after the Bulgarian name “Varna” in the 9th century, although it finally became part of the Bulgarian kingdom only in the 13th century. In the era of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom, Varna turned into a busy shopping centre, which traded with Genoa, Venice, Dubrovnik. The tourist boom of the twentieth century turned Varna into one of the favourite vacation spots of Bulgarian and foreign tourists.
