About Varna

Varna is located in north-eastern Bulgaria, on the Black Sea coast. History of Varna goes back centuries. In the 7th century BC, Odessos fortress, built by Greek colonists from the city of Miletus, already stood on this site. In the year 15 AD, it became part of the Roman Empire. The city was named after the Bulgarian name “Varna” in the 9th century, although it finally became part of the Bulgarian kingdom only in the 13th century. In the era of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom, Varna turned into a busy shopping centre, which traded with Genoa, Venice, Dubrovnik. The tourist boom of the twentieth century turned Varna into one of the favourite vacation spots of Bulgarian and foreign tourists.

About Pomorie

The modern town of Pomorie is located on the eponymous narrow, rocky peninsula, jutting 3.5 km into the Black Sea, on the northwest coast of Burgas Bay. From the south, east and northeast the city is surrounded by the sea, from the north – by Lake Pomorie, and only from west-northwest, through a narrow isthmus, flooded too often by the sea, connects with the Pomorie field, which is part of the Burgas lowlands. Over the millennia, the configuration of the terrain has changed, which is why the village has changed its location. Now 10 km south is today’s city of Burgas, 18 km north is Nessebar.
